Guest Post - Now You See Me

After some deliberation I decided to go to the secret unlimited card screening at cineworld and just hoped and prayed that the film would be worth it, I didn't want to go for anything less than a blockbuster as thanks to all the hype over the secret screening there was a lot of buzz. Waiting in the dark of the screen while being mildly entertained by one of the cinemas staff members and finally we get to see what we are watching and it turns out to be - Now You See Me.

A little bit let down by this, as I did want to see the film, but not on a special screening, so as the film isn't out until next week, I am not going to say too much about it. It is worth a watch and has some great moments in it, including a good twist at the end if not done badly. On that note, don't you just hate that, a brilliant twist in a film that should be a great big TaDa moment and they made in into a nhurgh one.

The cast are good, but somehow its not completely engrossing, something about the film is lacking that glue that really pulls you in, that makes you almost sit on the edge of your seat or that makes you hold your breath in anticipation. The film is completely watchable and it is enjoyable, but it is lacking something.

Guest Post - World War Z

With more zombie films and TV than I care to count at the moment, I was less than impressed with yet another zombie film when I first heard of it. I mean really what else can you do with zombies??

Really this is not all that different, the zombies are really really fast and can jump impossible distances, but the general theme of run away from them is still well in effect. Brad Pitt is effortless in this roll as he goes on a forced mission to find the start of the zombie outbreak in order to keep his family safe. The 3D is done well, its not all in your face, things flying into the audience, its very understated and just mostly used to give depth.  Another good thing is that instead of ridiculous fight scenes that are impossible, even for someone who has studied every martial art and combat form in the last thousand years, they are very gritty and realistic.

There are a few unexpected moments that make you jump (well they made me jump) but I would say that its not really worth all the hype. Don't get me wrong I really liked the film and I liked it a lot more than I expected to, but as usual the trailers make it look better than it is. Go watch it if you love Brad Pitt (because he is really good in it) Zombies and general mayhem. Don't watch it if you are expecting your socks blown off with excitement.

World War Z is out Now (UK)

Guest Post - The Purge

The purge is a home invasion film, with the idea that one night a year all crime is legal. This is called the purge and the films follows a family who try to survive the night behind a really pathetic security system that 'looks good' more than is impenetrable.

I love the idea behind the film, the execution of the idea is severely lacking. To begin with Ethan Hawk is not the greatest actor in the world and I tend to find any film that he appears in is never going to be a great hit, this is not the breakout role for him.

All I can think is that it may have been better if it focused on more than one family, more like a set of short stories of the night. The film is not really gripping, it has just enough happening to keep you sitting in your seat but nothing to make you really say wow. The one thing that makes you think is the political notion behind it, as it's quite frightening, and with our current government trying to make the rich super rich and the poor even poorer lets just hope they don't see this film and think of it as a 'How To'!

To sum up, its watchable and not bad, but really not all that its promised to be.

After Earth

Okay so basic principle of the film humans have moved of the earth as aliens have released monsters bread to kill humans now during fighting these creatures someone has managed to do what is called ghosting by in which they are completely without fear now these monsters are blind but can smell our fear and so that's why it's called ghosting and earth is a level 1 quarantined planet meaning everything on it has evolved to kill humans that's the basics done now the stars of the film are the blockbuster titan Will Smith(men in black 1, 2 and 3, Independence day, hitch) and his son Jaden Smith (karate kid, the pursuit of happiness) now the film was okay not great okay the main issue I have is not with the cast Will Smith is an unbelievable actor and one of my favourites and Jaden is become a great actor to so many times in the film and in karate kid he has looked so much like his father now as I said the main problem is that Will Smith has the ability to show such emotion and make you truly believe it is a real feeling weather it be him being cocky or sad or angry he brings such emotional depth to a performance but in this he plays a guy who barely shows any emotion and although he does it very well it seems in my view a waste of his talent if they had wanted a complete lack of emotion they should have used Kristen Stewart using Will Smith for this role is like asking Leonardo Davinci to paint your kitchen sure he'd do it well but he's better than that I personally found nothing wrong with the acting but was a bit disappointed by the writing but that's just my opinion the CG and the fight scene with Jaden was amazing and seamless it look sensational and I truly believe he'll go on to do as well as his father has done sadly for this film probably not so in summing up I'd give this film a solid 5 out of ten good concept great acting poor writing
